CHILD CUSTODY INFORMATION

It is important to understand child custody information if you are planning on getting divorced and having a dispute on who will take care of the child or children. Some of the information you should know include what the courts require from you, how the court determines primary custody, and everything that will help you with gaining custody of your child.

Child custody information should be kept organized and you should put on your calendar every event and requirement by the court. Do not throw out papers. Read all of them. Some of the papers might require you to take a parenting class. Any classes that are required by the court make sure that you schedule them, write them down, and go to them. The courts know when you schedule the classes and they also know when you show up to them. If you have an emergency on an already scheduled class and you have to reschedule the parenting class, this looks very bad and it is not favored in the courts. Show up at every required event, court date, and know everything required by you through the courts.

Other child custody information you should know is how the court determines child custody. Not all states are the same and if you moved from somewhere else and you know the laws in another state, never assume both states act the same. They don’t. If you assume that you will automatically get custody of your child because you are the mother, you might be in for a rude awakening. Be prepared when you go to court by knowing everything about what makes the court determine which parent gets custody of a child.

If you are having difficulty understanding child custody information provided to you by the court, you might want to do a little research or hire an attorney to clarify the information. Don’t go to court confused, don’t miss any important dates, and be clear on all of the child custody information.

Pay attention to all of the child custody information and paperwork that you receive through the courts. If you don’t it might cost you your child.
